Shopify Integration Migration to HubSpot

As part of our ongoing e-commerce improvements, the connection between our online shops and HubSpot is being migrated from the current PrestaShop integration to the new Shopify integration. This article explains what is changing, what the impact is for HubSpot users, and what to expect after the migration.

What is changing?

Orders with Mirrored Deals With the Shopify integration, completed online purchases will be created natively as Orders in HubSpot.

Orders are HubSpot's standard object for e-commerce transactions and provide a more accurate representation of online purchases. However, to ensure a smooth transition and avoid disrupting our current processes, we are implementing an Order → Deal Mirroring solution. For every new Shopify Order, a mirrored Deal will automatically be created.

What this means for you:

  • New purchases will appear natively as Orders.
  • A mirrored Deal will automatically be created for each new Order.
  • Your existing Deal-based reports, dashboards, workflows, and segmentation will continue to function seamlessly.

Abandoned Cart emails Abandoned Cart emails will no longer be managed through HubSpot. Instead, they will be sent directly by Shopify.

As a result:

  • Abandoned carts (unfinished purchases) will no longer be visible in HubSpot.
  • Only completed purchases will be synchronized to HubSpot as Orders.

New Shopify properties The Shopify integration introduces two new properties:

  • Customer ID (Shopify)
  • Tags (Shopify)

These properties can be used for reporting, segmentation, and future automation.

Updated Source Store values

The Source Store property will follow a new naming convention using the primary Shopify domain identifiers (e.g., fdxamf-rd.myshopify.com for Switzerland / CH). This replaces the previous PrestaShop-based store names.

This replaces the previous PrestaShop-based values.

What is not changing?

This migration only affects how e-commerce purchase data is synchronized. Because of the Order → Deal Mirroring solution, almost all HubSpot functionality remains unchanged, including:

  • Contacts
  • Companies
  • Forms
  • Lists
  • Marketing Emails
  • Workflows (including those relying on e-commerce Deals)
  • Campaigns
  • Reporting (both e-commerce and non-e-commerce)

Historical data

Following an internal assessment, we have decided not to migrate historical B2C Deals into Orders.

Existing Deals created before the migration will remain exactly as they are in HubSpot for your historical reference and reporting. Note: Historical Shopify Orders synchronized during the initial setup will purposefully not generate mirrored deals in order to prevent duplicate records.

Do I need to do anything?

No action is required before the migration. After go-live, continue working in HubSpot as usual. If you notice any unexpected behavior or data discrepancies, please contact the HubSpot Team.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are we using both Orders and Deals? The Shopify integration natively creates Orders, which is HubSpot's standard and recommended object for e-commerce transactions. However, to preserve our existing Deal-based reports, dashboards, and workflows with minimal disruption, we implemented an automated system that creates a mirrored Deal for every new Shopify Order.

Will I lose my historical Deals? No. Existing Deals will remain available in HubSpot. There will be no migration of historical Deals into Orders.

Where can I find new purchases? After the migration, all new completed purchases will be stored natively as Orders, and they will also automatically populate into your current pipelines as mirrored Deals.

Will abandoned carts still be available in HubSpot? No. Abandoned carts will be managed entirely by Shopify and will no longer be synchronized to HubSpot.

Has anything changed for Marketing Automation? No. Existing marketing assets—including forms, lists, workflows, emails, and campaigns—will continue to function as before. Thanks to the mirrored Deals, workflows and automation relying on e-commerce Deals will not be impacted.

What about product-based segmentation and order numbers?
We are currently researching solutions to replicate e-commerce order numbers natively to support purchase-based product segmentation. Updates on this capability will be shared once finalized.

Why don't historical Shopify setup orders have mirrored Deals?
Historical Shopify Orders synchronized during initial backend setup were intentionally excluded from Deal mirroring to prevent creating duplicate Deal records in your pipeline.
